Salt or sodium as it is seen on most food labels, is used by the food industry to flavor, bind and stabilize food. Bacteria cannot thrive in high sodium volumes, hence the use of salt as a preservative. This is good for the food industry but not at all good for you. High volumes of sodium in the blood draws excessive amounts of water into the blood stream also. This increases the volume of liquid and therefore pressure inside the cardiovascular system, putting strain on the vascular walls and the heart itself. This in turn leads to potential stroke or heart disease problems. Read the food labels before you eat and try to minimize your sodium intake.
